Vegan Burgers – My Go To Vegan Burger Recipe

Burgers have always been and will probably forever be my favorite food. Now that I am a vegetarian (most of the time I eat vegan too) I’ve learned to create meatless versions of my absolute favorite dish. I love just playing around with different types of of toppings as well as different ways of making some flavorful and delicious patties. This is my go to way of making these. It is seriously so easy and basically anyone can do it. I hope you try these out and enjoy them as much as I do! 🙂

What you will need

For the Patties:

For toppings:

  • 1 avocado
  • 1-2 tomatoes
  • arugula
  • 2 tablespoons of BBQ sauce
  • 1 red onion
  • homemade hummus
  • burger buns

How to make it

  1. First cop up one onion and add it into a pan (greased with coconut oil)
  2. rinse your red beans under cold water

3. add your beans into a bowl as well as 1/2 a can of the tomato sauce and 1/2 a red onion

4. with a blending stick, blend roughly until smooth (you still want it to be chunky, so you don’t lose the texture)

5. add in some seasoning: I added paprika powder, salt, oregano, pepper and a little bit of ketchup

6. add some all purpose flour to the mix (to prevent the patties from falling apart in the pan) and combine it all together

7. keep adding flower or tomato sauce until you get to a good consistency (should be easy to form patties with two spoons)20171203_153636

8. grease up a non stick frying pan and put in about a 2 teaspoon big patty at a time

9. while your patty is getting nice and crispy, add 2 tablespoons of BBQ sauce (and some water if you need to) to the onions you started cooking at the beginning and caramelize them  nicely20171203_153036

10. While everything is cooking, start chopping up your veggies 20171203_154905

11. slice your burger buns in half and put them into the oven for a few minutes20171203_155012.jpg

12. When your patty is nice and crispy on both sides and your caramelized BBQ-onions are ready you can start assembling your burger

first spread some hummus on the bottom of the bun, then add fresh onions, tomato and avocado to it. Add some arugula before putting your patty onto the burger so everything holds together nicely. spread your caramelized onions onto the patty and add some ketchup if you like. Put on the top bun and voilà, your amazing vegan burger is ready to be enjoyed! You can make some sweet potato fries to serve on the side if you want.
